Spinal Decompression Q & A

What is spinal decompression?

At IllumINNATE Walk-In Family Chiropractic, spinal decompression is a noninvasive treatment that gently stretches the spine to relieve back and neck pain.

The chiropractic practice has a state-of-the-art decompression table that has advanced technology and a proprietary system that adjusts tension and force on your spine throughout the entire therapy session.

Stretching the spine relieves pressure on pinched nerves and allows blood to flow to the area to promote healing.

Who can benefit from spinal decompression?

Anyone with chronic neck or back pain that fails to improve with conservative interventions may benefit from spinal decompression. The noninvasive therapy treats many spine conditions, such as:

  • Herniated disc
  • Sciatica
  • Pinched nerves
  • Degenerative disc disease (DDD)
  • Spinal stenosis

Your certified chiropractor at IllumINNATE Walk-In Family Chiropractic can talk to you about spinal decompression therapy and determine if it makes the right treatment for you after a thorough examination.

Spine stretching sounds painful. What does spinal decompression feel like?

Spinal decompression at IllumINNATE Walk-In Family Chiropractic is painless and gentle. Treatment takes 30 minutes, and many patients fall asleep during therapy.

While you lie on the decompression table, your chiropractor adjusts the position of the table based on the part of the spine undergoing treatment and wraps a harness around your pelvis to keep it stationary.

For cervical spinal decompression, your head is placed in the cervical cradle unit and held in place with cervical restraints. For the lumbar spine, your provider positions the pelvic section of the table to target specific areas of the lower back.

After your session, the IllumINNATE Walk-In Family Chiropractic team may provide ice therapy for 15 minutes before sending you on your way.

When can I expect results from spinal decompression?

You may notice neck or back pain improvements after completing 15 or more spinal decompression sessions. Your IllumINNATE Walk-In Family Chiropractic chiropractor customizes your spinal decompression treatment plan based on your needs and goals.

Typically, they provide therapy five days in a row, followed by two rest days for 3-4 weeks.
